A Mini Hydro Scheme on the River Dove and Carbon Reduction for the community
An environmentally friendly way to create electricity
Irrespective of what your affiliation is with Tutbury and its surrounds, you cannot be anything but impressed with the attractiveness of the place with its pretty village centre overshadowed by the ruins of Tutbury Castle. Likewise with Tutbury’s residents, there are many activities, clubs and support groups. Tutbury Ecopower is one such group that concentrates on ecological issues, principally, energy saving with it’s associated carbon reduction for the benefit of the local community.
Meetings to which all newcomers are welcome are held monthly at the Dog & Partridge on the High Street. Come along and enjoy a warm welcome from the whole team. Enjoy the light-hearted and often humorous exchanges of the meeting and then relax on a personal level with a drink in the bar afterwards.
Membership is free, but unfortunately you still have to pay for your drink!.
Community groups are all about the people and for that reason the group has its own Peoples Director Gary Rowe:

There are no prerequisites for joining; having experience or skills which would benefit a community group with a green environmental focus is only a bonus. We’ve proven so far since the formation of the group in 2008 that there is little that interest and enthusiasm cannot overcome
The existing project team reflects the diversity of the local community – mix of working professionals, those at home balancing family life, the retired with time to give whether self employed or unemployed there’s a role for everyone.
So what are the benefits?
- Helping other community groups in return for support in a spirit of mutual cooperation
- Publication, launch events, fundraising, visits to and network with other groups/projects report and disseminate to the group.
- Engage with like-minded people, your community and other similar groups across the country.
- Meet new people, support each other and develop new skills and knowledge through the existing network of supporting companies and organisations (discover skills you didn’t know you had).
- Challenge yourself if you want; or give up just a couple of hours a month when it suits you.
- Opportunities for personal development and training/ experience, life skills, teamwork all things that are valued by employers
- Retired, part-time, unemployed – some tasks are time-consuming
- By involvement, enjoy the continuing social aspects of the group and make some lifelong friendships on the way.
